SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google has been branded an abusive monopolist by a federal judge for the second time in less than a year, this time for illegally exploiting some of its online marketing technology to boost the profits fueling an internet empire currently worth $1.8 trillion.

The ruling issued Thursday by U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Virginia comes on the heels of a separate decision in August that concluded Google’s namesake search engine has been illegally leveraging its dominance to stifle competition and innovation.

After the U.S. Justice Department targeted Google’s ubiquitous search engine during President Donald Trump’s first term, the same agency went after the company’s lucrative digital advertising network in 2023 during President Joe Biden’s ensuing administration in an attempt to undercut the power that Google has amassed since its inception in a Silicon Valley garage in 1998.

Although antitrust regulators prevailed both times, the battle is likely to continue for several more years as Google tries to overturn the two monopoly decisions in appeals while forging ahead in the new and highly lucrative technological frontier of artificial intelligence.

The U.S. Department of Defense is required to report its energy use to the Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program. In FY2020, total estimated DoD greenhouse gas emissions based solely on fuel usage data were more than 51 million metric tons of CO2. That figure includes emissions from standard day-to-day operations as well as emissions from non-standard operations such as combat support, law enforcement, emergency response, and spaceflight. Edstrom says there’s more to be concerned with than just operating emissions.

Edstrom says the U.S. Department of Defense budget, which in fiscal year 2021 was more than $703 billion, is bolstered by fear. He thinks Americans’ fears are misguided. Edstrom thinks the future military will be more electric, but says requiring the military-industrial complex to report the full scope of its emissions, beyond just fuel usage, is a crucial step in getting there.

Right, so as Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza is now in its 18th month, the world is witnessing not just the systematic slaughter of Palestinians but also the slow unravelling of Israel’s international impunity. So let’s start with this first story and this one concerns Bangladesh, currently with an arrest warrant out against UK Labour MP Tulip Siddiq in relation to alleged corruption, she the niece of the former despotic ruler Sheikh Hasina as I covered in a video the other day, but this is about Israel.
Bangladesh has never formally recognised Israel as a state, a principled stance rooted in its own history of liberation from genocide followed by its independence in 1971. And for decades, Bangladeshi passports carried an explicit disclaimer:

‘This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel.’
This restriction was lifted in 2021 under Sheikh Hasina’s increasingly authoritarian regime, a move that sparked outrage among Bangladeshis who saw it as a betrayal of Palestine, however it was done merely to meet international standard and travel to Israel remained banned in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has always stood on the side of Palestine, on the side of Gaza throughout Israel’s atrocities. But now the Bangladeshi government, under the rule of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, have reinstated this phrase in all Bangladeshi passports, "This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel."
