In terms of Security.. many have no clue on how to set this up ..#correctly to safeguard programmer #THEFT. a BIG ONE!

The case concerns 11,500 lines of #code that Google was accused of copying from Oracle’s #Java programming language.

Google deployed the code in #Android, now the most popular mobile operating system in the world. Oracle sued Google in 2010 alleging that the use of its code in Android #violated_copyright_law.

#Microsoft wrote in a friend-of-the-court brief submitted to the justices that letting the lower court’s opinion stand “threatens disastrous consequences for innovation.”

In another brief, companies including #Firefox maker #Mozilla, #Etsy and #Medium wrote that the decision could “completely restructure the way in which software production, competition, and innovation occur, especially on the #internet.”

Java was developed by #Sun_Microsystems, which Oracle purchased in a deal valued at $7.4 billion that was completed in 2010.

#Plastic_packaging_waste from the online retail giant Amazon ballooned to 709 million pounds globally in 2021 — equivalent to the weight of some 70,000 killer whales — according to a new report published Thursday by the nonprofit Oceana. That’s an 18 percent increase over Oceana’s estimate of Amazon’s plastic packaging for 2020, indicating a growing problem that environmental advocates — and even Amazon’s own shareholders — say the company is doing too little to address.

The Dalles sues to keep Google’s water use a secret | CALLING FOR #MANDITORY #EPA INVESTIGATION!

Ahead of a key city council vote on a $28.5 million water pact with Google, the city of The Dalles filed suit in state court Friday in an effort to keep the tech giant’s water use a secret.

The city is seeking to overturn a ruling earlier this month from Wasco County’s district attorney, who found Google’s water use is a public record and ordered The Dalles to provide that information to The Oregonian/OregonLive. The city sued the news organization Friday, asking a judge to intervene.

Google wants a lot more water and a new tax deal for big data center expansion in The Dalles
Google is negotiating to build two more data centers in The Dalles, seeking access to a lot more water and a new package of tax breaks in exchange for spending hundreds of millions of dollars to expand its facilities on the site of a former aluminum smelter.

Neither Google nor the city will say how big the new data centers would be, but they figure to be huge. Google spent $1.8 billion on its server farms along the Columbia River through 2017.
