#Jesus mentioned the name of this Zechariah when he denounced the apostasy of the #pharisees and #scribes by walking in the steps of their fathers who #killed the #Old_Testament #Prophets.
✝️ Jesus said, “ #on_you may come all the #righteous_blood_shed on the #earth, from the blood of #righteous_Abel to the #blood_of_Zechariah, #son_of_Berechiah, whom you #murdered between the #temple and the #altar” (Matthew 23:35). These religious leaders at the time were #plotting the #death of #Jesus and in few days actually succeeded in #crucifying_Him.
The Bible tells us that Zechariah was the son of Jehoiada the #high_priest, who was #stoned to #death in the #courts of the #Temple upon orders from King Joash, who reigned from 835 to 796 B.C. Jewish history outside the Bible also mentions this murder that #shook the #nation when it took place.
