This is why I've been critical of W3C SWICG revival. Although the group managed to produce some useful documentation (ActivityPub Primer), it has the authority to impose standards, and naturally attracts people who want to tell others what to do. It can be easily captured by corporations or other entities.

Thankfully, Fediverse Enhancement Proposals are becoming more popular.
