Trump has spent $37 million from his "leadership" political action committee on legal fees since Jan 2022 to defend his businesses, his children, and former White House aides.
"Campaign finance experts say using the money to pay for lawyers in cases not related to the campaign or officeholder duties appears to conflict with a federal ban on the personal use of donor dollars."
The US Federal Election Commission declared last March that the personal use ban didn’t apply to "leadership PACs," a type PAC that is legally unaffiliated with a candidate’s principal campaign committee.
The FEC declaration came as a Biden-appointed commissioner sided with three Trump-appointed commissioners on the six-person panel.
This is a loophole that must be closed by Congress. Meanwhile, I guess Trump will continue milking his minions who can't see they're getting the shaft end of "the art of the deal."
