#Theater_chains across #America to offer $3 tickets for '#National_Cinema_Day

Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Major #Cinema_Chains across the #United_States will be offering #movie_tickets for $3 this #Saturday (TODAY!:) in #celebration of the first-ever #National_Cinema_Day.

Participating theaters will be offering all tickets that day for $3, even for typically high-priced formats like IMAX, 3D or Dolby, according to the National Cinema Day website.

The event is being put on by the Cinema Foundation, the charitable arm of the National Association of Theater Owners, a trade organization that includes most major theater chains in the United States.

Jackie Brenneman, the president of the Cinema Foundation, told CNBC that the idea for a National Cinema Day had been planned for a long time, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic effectively slamming the brakes on the film industry.

"It's an opportunity [for the public] to see a movie again, or see a movie that they were maybe on the fence about," Brenneman said. "For people who haven't come [since the pandemic], this gives them an opportunity to see how great movie theaters are."

"It's an opportunity to get people to try out the new technologies and see how they like it," she added.

#Death_Valley hits 127 #degrees, setting #record for HOTTEST #September day on the #planet

Sure, it was hot across the #Los_Angeles region, but was it Death Valley hot?

The national park, famous for being one of the hottest places on the planet, set a new record for the hottest September day anywhere on the planet when its #Furnace_Creek thermometer hit 127 degrees on Thursday.

While the heat may send people seeking shade at a, say, a Los Angeles-area #golf_course, it actually draws the #tourists to Death Valley, where scorching temperatures can sometimes surprise them.

"The ground heats up, we've measured temperatures of 201 as far as ground temperatures. The ground is then radiating heat back up into the air," Death Valley National Park spokeswoman Abby Wines said.

But the heat wave is just in its third day Friday, and is expected to last through Labor Day, so setting another record is still a possibility. However, it's unlikely the park will break the record for the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth – 134 degrees recorded in Death Valley on July 10, 1913.

The record-breaking heat comes less than a month after monsoon rain caused flash flooding in Death Valley National Park, severely damaging several roads.
